Physical Education

PE Vision- An all-rounded PE programme to strengthen the physical, psychological and emotional wellbeing of our pupils.

PE curriculum

Riding on the wave of implementation of the new PE syllabus, the department will be adjusting the P1 and P2 curriculum design to consist of 5 main components (Educational Gym, Sports and Games, Dance and Physical Health and Fitness, Outdoor Education).

A collaborative talent identification assessment framework will be applied in 4 categories of sports (target, invasion, net/wall and fundamental movement) to streamline the P1 and P2 curriculum with the over-arching CCA learning objectives. Integrated with the Assessment for Learning (AfL) approach, a progressive dance curriculum based on the principles of Laban’s Movement Analysis will be used to provide accurate and specific qualitative feedback and learning. Games Concepts and Fitness Conditioning will be infused within sports modules to encourage maximum school level participation.

The pedagogical learning outcome of the PE/CCA curriculum seeks to achieve a balance between independent learning and collaborative partnerships. A twin pronged student centric approach is designed to equip our learners with multi-dimensional skills to explore, create and accomplish at different levels of development and competition. All the modules will be anchored upon the school values (CHIP) as reflective platforms for students to exemplify the desired Values in Action aligned with OLGC’s mission and vision.

Department highlights for 2014

P5 Adventure Camp

The annual P5 outdoor adventure camp was conducted at MOE Adventure Centre at the Labrador camp site. Through a 3 day and 2 night camp experience, the girls will go through a variety of outdoor challenges like team building games, high/low elements, abseiling, rock climbing, outdoor cooking and kayaking. This is the first opportunity for many of our girls to camp overnight and learn about the importance of basic survival skills and community living. The camp is also a chance for the girls to collaborate in teams and showcase their expressive talents in the showpiece campfire show for all parents in the finale.

Student Leadership training in collaboration with Xinmin Secondary School

The department reached out to a partner school to design a facilitation training programme for our student leaders. Tapping on Outdoor Education elements, our student leaders gained early exposure to the service leadership framework in building a culture to serve and guide for others. Adopting an experiential approach, the girls were taught to pick up skills in belaying and conducting of low elements games.

Parent and Educator Forum for “Lifelong Fitness”

A forum designed to engage parents on issues of building lifelong perspectives of fitness, different stakeholders were invited to elucidate their best practices and recommendations to design a conducive and active physical learning environment. This forum encouraged a range of perspectives to be shared. Ideas generated from the discussion were subsequently followed up to design a range of activities to benefit students.  In this collaboration, parents and fellow educators are highly valued in the roles they played aligned with department’s approach to structure a lifelong learning for all students and their communities.

Trek to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Embarking on a trek to the island’s highest point, the challenge was laid out to our girls. The expedition was designed to incorporate a variety of learning points in scientific exploration themes. The learning journey created a live discovery and challenging environment for the girls to raise self-awareness of the beauty and wonders of nature.

Hike around Pulau Ubin

Following up on the trek, the girls got to experience one of the well conserved nature spots. Exploring in this idyllic location, the girls were able to expand on their learning perspectives in a relaxed family based setting. Observing the rustic nature of the environment, students are able to appreciate the fine wonders of nature while enjoying quality family bonding time at the same time.
