Edusave Character Award (ECHA)

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Re: EDUSAVE CHARACTER AWARD

MOE has introduced a new Edusave Character Award (ECHA) in 2012 to enable schools to recognise students who demonstrate exemplary character and outstanding personal qualities through their behaviour and actions.

Eligibility Criteria

The ECHA is meant to recognise and affirm students who demonstrated exemplary character and outstanding personal qualities through their behaviour and actions.  Students must satisfy the following eligibility criteria before they can be given the ECHA:

  • Students must be Singaporeans.
  • Students must, on a consistent basis, demonstrate good character traits and values.  In particular, students may be identified for demonstrating the following types of qualities:

School values of Compassion, Humility, Integrity and Perseverance and Attitude.

Students should have been recognised with the CHIP badges in the year of nomination.

  • Students demonstrating strong positive attitude, passion and enthusiasm in their work and interaction with others be it in academic or non-academic areas. For example, students were given ‘excellent’ conduct grades or they were awarded with ‘Star of the Term’.
  • A high level of civic responsibility.  Students who are concerned about issues in the community or issues faced by others, initiating action to address these issues to improve the lives of others, and being committed to make a positive difference; and/or participated in Service Learning and taken proactive steps to go the extra mile for the community project.
  • Qualities associated with resilience(TRUE COURAGE):  Students who have persevered despite facing difficult circumstances (e.g. financial problems, health issues, family issues, peer resistance etc) and have managed to overcome the odds and still do commendably well in academic and non-academic domains.

Selection Process

  • Nomination: The nomination process is open to all students, staff, parents and partners (coaches, long-term vendors, etc). Pupils will be issued nomination forms and parents can download form B1 for upper primary (P4-6) and B2 for lower primary (P1-3) from our school website (Sch Website> For Parents>Forms>Edusave Character Award) if they wish to nominate a child.
  • Shortlisting:
    • Deliberation by the level teachers and the Pastoral Care Department on the eligibility of the nominees based on their self-written reflections and GAP forms and feedback from key stakeholders
    • Shortlisting of nominees based on the award quota and rubrics
    • Feedback from key stakeholders may include the following:

Parents (on child’s behaviour at home)

      Peers (through written testimonials)

  • Endorsement: To have a clearer indication of the nominees’ true nature, the endorsement panel may use the following methods:
  • Interview the nominees Individually
  • Conduct a group dialogue session with the nominees

(in one big group or in smaller groups)

  • The final decision will be made by the ECHA committee.

Form of Award

Similar to the practice for other Edusave awards, the ECHA awardees will receive a certificate and an award voucher.  The ECHA award quanta are as follows, depending on the level of study:
